Happy Halloween

I’m sitting here with about 19 minutes left on the 2010 Halloween. Hasn’t been a very exciting one. I had Trent today because he has fallen way behind on his homework. Last week he had the oppurtunity to do all his daily homework and start working on making up the stuff he’s been lying about doing. Unfortunately he decided not to do it. So the punishment was not to go trick or treating this year. I really didn’t think he would make the decisions that he did. However I guess he was testing the waters and decided to lie about his homework and “forget” to bring the extra stuff home. So he got to spend the day with me doing homework. That was a tough punishment to carry out. I really hope he learned a valuble lesson today. If not, it’s going to be a long school year.

Other than that I put up a website for my father’s band the other day. He seemed really excited about it. I told him awhile back that I was going to send him a computer and have been lagging on it. Really, I don’t have much of an excuse of why I haven’t done it other than being busy with my own life and being lazy. So I decided to pick him up a domain name and through up a site on my webserver for him. It was nice to read his email respones to the gift. I even went back a few days later and read them again. Made me smile.

I bought some shelves that I wanted for my kitchen today and put them up. It looks a lot better in here now. Lately I’ve picked up a few different things to make my apartment more homely. It’s been pretty bare over the last few months. It takes a while to start from scratch. But I am a proud owner of a kitchen table, microwave, and toaster now. Oh yeah, I actually have a real trashcan now. LOL, the office wastebasket that I’ve been using for the last few months is now for recycling. I also have scored a couple different pieces of artwork that I’ve had my eyes on for a long time. Just so happen to run into them on sale and have got them for a fraction of what they were originally. It’s coming around.

I tried to take the RAID off my SSD’s on my laptop and reinstall my Ubuntu and Windows 7. I needed to do this for a while because there isn’t trim support on them the way they were set up. I ran into a bunch of issues with that whole process. I’m going to have to put a few hours into trying to straighten that out tomorrow. I ended up putting the RAID back on so I could just use my laptop for some things I was trying to do. Sometimes computers are a real pain in the ass. Thank GOD for that…..or I wouldn’t have a job. LOL

Anyways, that’s enough ranting for tonight. Got 6 mins of Halloween to enjoy. 😉

Are you sure you want to eat that?

Mr. HankyA coworker of mine recently went to Hawaii and picked up some chocolate covered macadamia nuts. When I first got sight of them they reminded me of something else. Take a look at the picture and let me know if Mr. Hanky snuck into the box. ***Update*** I was dared to eat it the other day and picked it up off my desk which apparently has been sitting there for 3 months and proceeded to eat it.  I’m sure it wouldn’t have tasted as dusty as it did if I would have eaten it sooner but it was funny to look at every day.

Carved my own Pumpkins

The kids were over at the house this weekend and wanted to carve pumpkins. So we ran into a buy one get one free sale at Safeway and bought a couple. We gutted them and took the seeds to the neighbor that I unknowingly threw away his seeds and he seemed happy with the gift. He actually baked them up and delivered some of them back to the kids so they could taste them.

The World Wide Entertaining Web

My co-worker and I were in a debate about how stuff got to Hawaii and he didn’t believe me that birds took most things there. So in the search for the proof we ran into this awesome piece of web knowledge.

Kinect for Xbox 360

Awhile back I posted videos from what Microsoft was calling Natal for the xbox.  Basically a way to play interactive games without any controllers.  You could think of it as their response to the Wii type of gaming.  None-the-less it has been renamed to Kinect and is about to release.  I’m banking this is going to be the hot 2010 xmas purchase that will be ebaying well over it’s retail this year because they are already publicly announcing that they are under production on the units.  Check out the videos below to see some previews.

My Neighbors Love Me

CarvingWell, maybe not soo much. So for the last few weeks this humungous Squash has been sitting on the steps of my one neighbors apartment. Then somewhere along the line he added a pumpkin. Either way I heard the story of how the squash ended up at his house and from the likes of it he didn’t care about it too much. Besides anything that’s not bolted down outside of our apartments tends to disappear. Ok, I take back the bolted down part…..my catalytic converter was bolted down. Anyways back to the pumpkin. So the other night I was looking at the two of them sitting out there all lonely in the middle of the night and nobody giving them any attention and decided it was time to take immediate action. The picture is what happened. It was pretty funny. I’ve had a few of the neighbors tell me the were cracking up when they woke up and saw them like that in the morning. The one that owned them said he was a little upset at first but later saw the humor in it and was lauging about it. I thought it was really funny. However I did feel a little bad for it the next day, even though it was still funny. LOL I think I’m going to buy another pumpkin for the neighbor, but it was well worth the process and the laughter that I got out of these two vegetables.

Fun at Ikea

Trent in AfricaI was at Ikea the other day with the kids. They have this big hanging picture, that is actually pretty cool. Anyways, I had the kids with me and thought it would be funny to take pictures with them in front of it to make them look like they were in the jungle. This is what I ended up with. The one of Kaira didn’t turn out as well because she was a little shorter so it was hard to get the angle. Plus people were starting to walk up and we had to get out of everyones way.

Getting back in Stride

After last week’s initial run I got back out the next day. Originally I was trying to tell myself not to run again until Wednesday. Well Tuesday I set out thinking I was just going to walk. Then somewhere between the door and where I normally start running I talked myself into running one mile. My goal was to push just to see how fast I could run one and then walk the second for a cool down. It was a little bittersweet. It was nice to see the 8:30 pace, but on the other hand that kicked the crap out of me and that’s my normal “in shape” 5 mile pace. None-the-less I was sore as hell the next two days and decided it was in my best intrest not to run. Thursday night I had dodgeball and comtiplated running however it was a combination of a long run during the day and the quick twitch running at softball that screwed up my quad a few months back so I decided to wait until Friday to run again. Friday I added a little distance and stuck with the 10 min pace. Then today I checked some of my old run maps and took off on what was measured to be 3 miles. My Nike+ is claiming it’s 2.81, either way we are only talking about a difference of what I’m guessing to be another 15-30 seconds of running so I’m not really going to get all anal about it. Today’s pace rounded out to about 9 min miles. I’m really happy about that. Basically added a mile and dropped a min in the last week. I think I must have started out way fast, and finished off slow. I was at a 9:03 when I was at the half way point and I could tell I slowed down from the start. When I rounded the corner that is about a quarter mile from the finish I was running at close to a 10 min pace. I need to work on keeping a pace the entire way through a run rather than what I did today. I could really tell I took off fast but I wasn’t sure what my pace should feel like because it’s been awhile since I’ve been running regularly. Either way, I’m glad I’ve made progress.

No need for actors to work out

I ran into this today. It’s actually pretty cool. What the software can do is change the shape of the persons body with some pretty simple clicks.

RSS Down

I decided to drop my link to Facebook. I’m actually boycotting Facebook right now. No good reason. Just don’t feel like messing with it for now.
