Marathon Training

1st Training RunSome of you may know I’m a Biggest Looser fan.  So a couple of weeks ago I was watching the show and they had the finalists run a marathon.  As I was sitting here looking at these people who were still fairly overweight run a marathon I said to Heather, “If they finish this I’m gonna have to run a marathon.”  I was just amazed watching these people who probably ran a daily 5 miles run a marathon in a month.  WOW!  None-the-less they finished the mararthon.  I was amazed.  After the show was over I pretty much forgot about what I said until yesterday when I was talking to a coworker who mentioned they were going to run this marathon in December.  At that point I remembered my cocky statement watching the biggest looser and eating ice cream.  So I said I wanted to run a marathon because I watched some people do it  on The Biggest Looser.  The funny thing is the person I was talking to said they were running the marathon for the same reason.  At that point I was inspired again and it seems like it’s sticking this time.  I thought about it all day yesterday and told my wife and kids what I am planning on doing.  Trent was really funny when I told him I was going to run from Folsom to Sacramento.  Anyways, I’ve been running pretty regularly at work M-F and now I’m going to start turning it up a few notches.  I’ll probably start running at night also and at least one long run on the weekends for awhile.  So this morning I got up and got Chase (my lab) and took off for a run.  I wanted to do about 6 miles but wasn’t really sure if I was going to have time to finish it before an appointment I had.  So by using this really cool tool for runners at: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ I was able to use google maps to plot out where I ran to give me an idea of how far I ran.  According to the site this mornings run was 4.6 miles.  I’m not sure how accurate that is so I’m going to ride the same route on my mountain bike with my gps and get an exact measurement.   I’ll edit this post to let you know the exact milage later.  I completed this run in about 55 mins.

Facebook integrated

facebookToday was a good day for my blog and Facebook.  I logged into Facebook and had a message from the developer of the Facebook Connect app that told me they fixed my issue in the newest version of the plugin.  So from that point I deactivated the old plugin, deleted it, and uploaded the new one.  The connect app allows people who read my website to use thier facebook credentials to post comments on my entries.  When they do this it posts the comment on my site and also adds the comment to thier Facebook feed.  So thier friends on Facebook can also see the comment.

Now that the plugin is working correctly I also wanted to get my new blog entries to show up on my Facebook page.  The developer also let me know I could import my blog’s rss feed into the notes section of Facebook.  Sweet, now my blog is totally integrated with Facebook.  🙂  This is yet again another reason why I prefer Facebook over MySpace.   They actually have people working on ways for people integrate with thier site instead of trying to keep it proprietary.   Good job and a thumbs up to the Facebook team!

Loopt adds Facebook Connect

Loopt

Loopt

Just the other day I got a Loopt request on my iPhone.  Honestly I haven’t used this app since I first got my phone.  However now it’s got a cool new feature that actually has got me using it again.  Basically you can link your Facebook account to your loopt account so when you make a status change on loopt you can send that change to facebook.  The cool part is that it can also include a link to a map, or a picture that you took as well.  Granted there is a facebook app for the iphone too, but I thought the map link was cool too.  Plus if you have a bunch of friends on loopt (which has apps for a bunch of different phones and works across carriers) then you can update them and your facebook friends at the same time.  So check out the loopt website to see if your phone is supported.

iPhone WordPress app

So one of the reasons I changed my blog was the ease of using all the community apps out there for wordpress. Now I’m gonna give adding a pic to this post a try.
