Getting back into MT. Biking

I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few weeks researching a bike to buy. I think I haven’t spent this much time researching anything I’ve ever bought. I’m actually proud of myself for doing the research for a change. Usually I’m a spur of the moment kind of guy but I knew from biking before that it was important that I got a good bike if I didn’t want to be dumping all kinds of money in it later or if I didn’t want to be buying a new bike again in a year or less.
I went through a lot of different bikes but I ended up picking out an 05 Cannondale Prophet 800. Here is a link to the manufactures site: Click Here Mine is black. I didn’t care for the orange, can you blame me?
I got a really good deal on it because it was last years model. It was pretty expensive for everything out the door since I was starting from scratch. So I purchased a bike, a helmet, clip shoes, 2 pairs of socks, a bike tool, an air pump (for tires and my shocks), shorts, gloves, bar ends, and got some free stuff like a hat, a patch kit, and some tire levers for around $2200 bux. Then I had to get bike racks for my roof rack which cost me another 4 bills.
I know it sounds like a lot of money. Shit it is a lot of money. The way I justify it to myself is that I spent just as much on my ski equipment and I only use that maybe 4-10 days a year. I’m planning on riding at least once a week if not more so I feel like this money is well spent. The only down side is the surgery I just got is going to keep me off the bike for awhile. All I can do is look at it and wait…

Umbilical Hernia

As some of you may already know I had an umbilical hernia. For those of you who don’t know what that is, like me a few weeks ago, it’s a hernia that pops out your belly button. Apparently its not too serious unless it gets stuck out. The doctor said you can get it fixed or just live with it. If you decide to live with it there won’t be much of a problem unless it gets stuck out. That wasn’t an option for me cuz it was kinda painful, and with the kids climbing on me and what not it was even more painful. The pic isn’t my belly, however it was simular to that…a little smaller…but you can get the idea. umbilicalhernia.gif
So, This morning I went to the hospital for surgery. Obviously I’m ok or I wouldn’t be typing this right now. Don’t get me wrong I’m in a lot of pain and the vicodan (sp?) isn’t really doing much more then taking the edge off. None-the-less, everything went fine. I’m supposed to go back in for my post-op checkup Monday May 8th. At that time the doctor will decide if I’m ok to go back to work or if I need to be out an additional week.

6 years old

Tre had his sixth birthday on Friday. Besides the house not being completely put together everthing went well. He got a new bike from us. Unfortunately the weather hasn’t been allowing him to go out riding it yet. None-the-less he loves his new bedroom furniture that we got him and is stoked about having a computer in his room. It’s hard to believe that he is 6 already. Time flies. For those of you with new babies, enjoy them because they grow up way to quick.

Out with the old, in with the new!

Last week we finally moved out of our first home. It was really sad to see it go. There were a lot of memories in that house and even though there where a lot of memories in apartments that Heather and I had it just wasn’t the same. I guess the main reason is because you don’t really put your time and or energy into the painting and maintenace/upgrading your apartment. I don’t know, but I must say it was sad walking through it that last time. As far as the move went, well, it was moving. So I think that was the hardest working vacation I was ever on. It was much more work moving out of that house then it ever was any of the apartments before. We have soooOOOoooo much more stuff then back then. Plus we had to move in the rain which just sucked. All in all it took three days to completly clean and move out of the old house. Now we just need to finish unpacking. The new house is awesome! The neighborhood is great too. It has been nice to take Chase out for walks and meeting all the neighbors. I love the views out of our windows as well. A friend of mine and I were up late the other night drinking and decided to go out muddin, that was quite the adventure. Needless to say we ended up driving around on the cart trails through the course..mental note…don’t go that way again!
