Google Search

For those of you that use this as your Homepage. I took the google links off the left navbar and added an addition search box on the right. Let me know if this is more functional then the links.

Down With Red Hat

suse.gifAfter getting the server up and running Red Hat 9, I’m still struggling with the little voice in the back of my head that is saying, “Get the latest and greatest.” So, since I tried Fedora, and didn’t get very far I decided to move forward onto a completely different flavor. After reading a million websites…yeah a million…I decided to try SuSE out. If the install doesn’t go as smooth as the Red Hat install then I’ll be back to the drawing board. As far as getting the game server up and running in Linux, I’ve got that down to an art. So the only thing that can or will be a challenge is getting the OS installed. The main reason that I’m doing this is because RH9 is no longer supported, therefore, since my server is on the internet and acting as a web server it would be extremely vulnerable. I don’t want to have to worry having to redo my server cuz I’m being trampled by some old widely know bug/exploit. I’ll post the results.

N/A Not a Clan Server (FF) Up w/Mani Mod

I’ve got the server completely back up and running with Mani Mod. I don’t have all the MP3’s in place or any Custom Maps yet. I will get those up soon. I also haven’t installed the Server Music Mod yet either. That will be soon to come. I do need to get everyones Steam Id’s again so that I can add you all to the admin list. So until I do that you won’t be able to access the admin control panel. I’ll let you all know when I make more changes.

CS: Server UP

Last night before I went to bed I started the Source Dedicated Server downloading the server files. I couldn’t spend too much time messing with the server cuz we had a million presents to wrap for the kids and I had to pick my brother up from the Greyhound station. However I snuck back out to the server this morning and before Heather could stop me I had the server up and running. I need to do all the customizing and what not but it’s up and running. So for not using Linux at all for about 2 years and getting a server OS loaded and game server running in about 2 hours I’m pretty stoked. I still have to get the webserver up and running too, but I don’t think that will be very difficult. We’ll see….

Fiber, Tigers and Bears, OMG!

So I jumped on the newsgroups today to download a few files. Look at what I saw in my Leecher:

I couldn’t believe it. Let me say that out loud…1.64 Gigabytes in 12 mins and 20 seconds!!! After I bent over to pick my jaw back up I noticed the speed I was getting off the servers. Here is a little peak of what got my rocks off on Christmas 05:

Fedora Bad >>> Red Hat Good

Well after about an hour on IM with a old Linux guru buddy we came to the conclusion that I couldn’t get drivers for Fedora for my hardware. However the Red Hat 9 distro booted right up, recognized all my hardware and installed fine. So no thoughts of Fedora in the near future. I’ll be learning the linux ropes with that and I’ll tackle something a little more advanced later. That’s all for now!

CS:S Server Down – Upgrade in Progress

I’m just letting you all know our CS:Source server is down right now. I’m in the process of changing the operating system from Windows 2k3 to Linux Red Hat Fedora. It’s been awhile since I’ve messed with Linux so I’m not making any promises on how long the migration is going to take. I’ll let you all know when it’s back up.
*** This also means that any files I was hosting for MySpace Users will be down until I get this server back up. Sorry peeps!

New House…maybe

As some of you may know we are trying to buy a new house. The Sacramento market has been booming for awhile but now has been dramatically slowing down. This sux for us because in the process of buying a new house we listed our current house high because we didn’t want to have to move out in two weeks back in September when we first listed it. Houses were moving that quick back then so we didn’t want to have to rent for 8 months nor did we want to miss out on 20-30 thousand dollars that our house would have went up in value. The prices were going up so fast we didn’t want to cut ourselves short. However the market has slowed way down and now our house isn’t selling. Prices are actually dropping. So we are now at a point that we have lowered our house price to as low as we can go to still afford the new house. Plus if our house doesn’t sell soon we will loose the new one. That SUX! If it doesn’t happen it wasn’t meant to be. We’ll see what happens!

Intel stepping it up

Intel plans to unleash the first quad core CPU (Kentsfield) within one year. The switch to 45 nm in 2007 will enable eight cores and up to 12 MB L2 cache (Yorkfield) per CPU.

Guestbook

I decided to take the guestbook off the site. Unfortunately there was no way to keep “bots” from signing it. So instead of having real freinds, family, or people leaving thier mark, I would end up with 200 guestbook entries with links for Viagra and other various sites. I’d like to thank anyone who signed the book and apologize that I had to remove it. If I can find one that has some sort of authentication that is easy to use like typeing in the numbers and letters in some abstract picture then I will put another one up. Thanks for understanding.
